Comrade Ogun Stephen has been elected as a Coordinator for the South-South and South-East zones of the Association of Tourist Boat Operators and Water Transporters of Nigeria (ATBOWATON).
Stephen, who was also the association’s Vice Chairman, is expected to leverage his previous experience to work with members across Rivers, Bayelsa and Anambra states to strengthen coordination and cooperation among operators in the two zones.
Speaking during the recent ATBOWATON meeting in Abuja, Stephen described his emergence as unexpected, saying he attended the meeting without any expectation of taking up a new leadership responsibility.
He noted that leadership demands patience, understanding and the ability to maintain peace while bringing members from different backgrounds and states together.
Recounting his previous assignment, Stephen said he coordinated members from Bayelsa, Rivers and Anambra, recalling an occasion when he waited for almost two hours for the Anambra delegation before the group could continue its journey.
He thanked members for the confidence they had placed in him and promised to work with stakeholders across the South-South and South-East to improve coordination, unity and effective representation within ATBOWATON.
