President of the
Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has declared open a three-day retreat for the management of the National Assembly and the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), with a call for stronger institutional collaboration, administrative efficiency and accountability in legislative service delivery.

Akpabio declared the retreat open on Friday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, with participants expected to deliberate on strategies for strengthening institutional relationships, improving administrative processes and enhancing the overall effectiveness of the National Assembly Service.
The retreat was themed,

“Strengthening Institutional Synergy, Administrative Effectiveness and Professional Service Delivery in the National Assembly.”

Represented by Senator Babangida Hussaini, the Senate President said the success of the National Assembly depended not only on the quality of its legislative and oversight functions but also on the effectiveness of its administrative structures and the professionalism of its workforce.

He described the retreat as an opportunity for participants to examine institutional challenges, strengthen coordination and develop practical strategies for improving the performance of the National Assembly Service.

According to him, no department, directorate or agency can achieve its full potential in isolation, stressing the need for sustained cooperation between the National Assembly management and the NASC.

Akpabio urged participants to embrace innovation, improve internal processes, promote accountability and ensure the efficient deployment of institutional resources.

“Administrative effectiveness requires us to embrace innovation, improve internal processes, promote accountability and ensure that institutional resources are deployed efficiently,” he said.

He further emphasised that professional service delivery required discipline, integrity, competence and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

The Senate President encouraged participants to engage constructively, exchange ideas and develop actionable resolutions capable of producing measurable and sustainable improvements in legislative administration.

He stressed that the quality of administrative support provided to the legislature must reflect the importance of its constitutional responsibilities and the expectations of Nigerians.

Akpabio also challenged participants to ensure that the retreat produced practical outcomes rather than ending with discussions and resolutions.

“Let this retreat be more than an avenue for discussion. Let it mark a turning point towards stronger institutional governance, more efficient administrative processes and a renewed culture of professionalism and accountability,” he said.

He maintained that the success of the retreat would be determined by participants’ commitment to translating the resolutions adopted into tangible results.

Akpabio assured participants that he was closely following the proceedings and looked forward to receiving the conclusions and recommendations at the end of the deliberations for prompt consideration and implementation.

He expressed confidence that the retreat would strengthen institutional collaboration, improve administrative efficiency and enhance professional service delivery across the National Assembly.
