FTAN set to hold Govering Council Meeting in Uyo

The President of Tourism Associations of Nigeria FTAN Mr. Nkereuwem Onung has described Akwa Ibom State as a rising star in Africa’s tourism landscape.

Mr. Onung was speaking in Uyo Akwa Ibom State capital while briefing Journalists on the 2025 Governing Council meeting of the Federation coming up in Uyo from May 21st to 24th.

According to him, the governing council comprises representatives from over 23 professional associations.

The President explained that the meeting will feature:
Discussions on progress of the industry and challenges
Gala night, tour of destinations and cultural heritage

He disclosed that the choice of Akwa lbom as host of this all important council convention is based on its rising profile in the tourism landscape of Africa and for the tourism stakeholders to have first hand experience of the tourism destinations as well as achievements and the ongoing projects by this administration.

Some notable achievements he highlighted include;
“Peace:The identification and promotion of peace as a veritable tourism product, where there’s no peace, there’s no development

  • Investment in Tourism Infrastructure: The state government has expressed commitment to investing in tourism, recognizing its potential to stimulate the economy, create jobs, and boost rural and riverine areas.
  • Tourism Site Development: Governor Umo Eno PhD has commenced the construction of ARISE PARK; a state-of-the-art recreational center
  • Promotion of Cultural Heritage: The government aims to preserve and promote Akwa Ibom’s rich cultural heritage from the 31 local government areas, as evident in the annual Ibom Christmas Unplugged- a 32-day festival
  • Tourism Committee Establishment: A tourism committee has been set up to assess, identify, and harness the state’s tourism potentials, making Akwa Ibom a desired tourism destination.
  • Public-Private Partnerships: The government is exploring public-private partnerships to develop tourism programs and activities, awaken tourist attractions, and improve infrastructure.

“These developments aim to boost tourism, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth in Akwa Ibom State, considering tourism as a developmental catalyst.

He said the World Press briefing was to request the support of the media to make the FTAN Convention in Uyo a success.

He also called on all tourism stakeholders across the nation to participate in the meeting.

Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy Honourable Hannatu Musawa and other tourism enthusiasts are expected to grace the occasion.
