The newly re-elected President of the Association of Tourist Boat Operators, Water Transporters of Nigeria has expressed appreciation to members for the confidence reposed in him, while calling for constitutional reforms to ensure democratic leadership and continuity within the organisation.
Speaking shortly after his re-election, the President said the association should define the tenure of its executives to prevent any individual from occupying office indefinitely.
“We need to decide how many years a president and the executive committee should serve so that no one remains in office permanently. Leadership should be democratic, with regular elections that promote continuity and fresh ideas,” he said.
He stressed that holding office should not be seen as a privilege but as an opportunity to serve the association diligently.
He encouraged members to be focused on what they can contribute to the association rather than what they stand to gain from it.
“It is not about the position you occupy; it is about what you can do for the association. Every elected officer must be committed to working for the growth and development of our organisation,” he said.
The President urged members, particularly the newly elected executive officers, to work together in unity, contribute meaningful ideas, and ensure regular meetings to strengthen the association.
He also expressed confidence in the newly elected Deputy President and other members of the executive, noting that collective leadership would move the association forward.
He concluded by thanking all members for their support and prayers, saying,
